NSF Research Experience for Undergrads

Cho Lab Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Bioengineering

Cho Lab Summer Undergraduate Research
Program in Bioengineering

School: Engineering and Computing

Department: Bioengineering

The Cho Lab Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Bioengineering provides undergraduate students with an immersive research experience at the intersection of bioengineering, nanophotonics, semiconductor technology, biomedical imaging, and single-cell biology.

The goal of the program is to introduce students to interdisciplinary research and help them develop the technical, analytical, and communication skills needed for graduate study and careers in science and engineering. Students will participate directly in ongoing research projects involving topics such as nanoscale lasers and optical sensors, semiconductor–cell interfaces, advanced microscopy, biomedical imaging, and longitudinal measurement of living cells.

Each student will work with a research mentor and participate in experimental design, laboratory research, data analysis, literature discussion, and research presentations. Students will also participate in Rice summer research professional-development activities and present their work at the OURI Summer Research Symposium.

The program is intended for undergraduate students in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, biology, and related disciplines. Students who are interested in interdisciplinary research and considering graduate study are especially encouraged to apply. Prior research experience is welcome but not required.
